Hermanus South Africa    Shopping
Hermanus offers a wide variety of shopping experiences. An excellent starting point is the market at Lemm's Corner. Here the visitor to Hermanus can buy local & African treasures, home made delicacies, art, clothes, gifts, jewellery, beadwork, crystals, and interesting gifts to take home with them.. A stroll through the streets of Hermanus will lead you past second hand book stores with treasures of bygone years to the most upmarket boutiques with hip & modern stuff – simply beckoning to jump into your parcels. Shopping in Hermanus almost always leads past one of the many restaurants, coffee shops or pubs where you can rest your feet & quench your thirst.

Art Galleries

Art galleries in Hermanus South Africa have mushroomed at the same rate as wineries! Hermanus is home to many famous artists and the late great Marjorie Wallace spent her last years in this quaint seaside village.

Creativity abounds in Hermanus South Africa and the lure of Bacchus is a huge contributing factor in getting those creative juices flowing!

Sculptors, goldsmiths, ceramists, photographers and writers have put Hermanus South Africa firmly on the international map as a destination of choice for lovers of art.

But the proof is in the pudding and do pay a visit to the galleries nestled in Onrus amongst the Milkwood trees. Misson House belongs to the sister team of Glenda Pope and Lee Wepener, both passionate about art and Hermanus and this duo possess a vast knowledge of each and every single piece of art on display in their gallery. Relax with a cup of tea afterwards at the Mission House tea garden. Also in Onrus is De stijl and the Atelier d’art.

The Hemel-en-Aarde Village should be your next stop as there are a number of galleries. Erna Dry at Hornbill House is a must see. Erna’s work is the sum of many parts. From a young age she was enchanted by stories, myths and fables, all these elements are captured in her work. Erna is captivated by the deep complexity of all of us. “We’re all the same.” Then of course there’s the influence of others, for her artists like Klimt is a source of inspiration.

Also pop in at Gallery Sixty Four and Southern Art.

Joshua Rossouw is situated in Harbour Road and Philip Harper Galleries in Main Road. From there visit Geta Finlayson's Harbour Gold Jewellery store and the adjacent Village books where owner Sue McNaught has sought out all the best of books to keep you laughing, thinking & informed.
