Welcome to Hermanus South Africa
Our whales are due back
The first
Southern Right whales will be in the bay during May. Hermanus has resident whales
throughout the year called Bryde whales, but these are
shy and not often spotted from the cliffs, however
Southern Right Charters were running sundowner cruises
during April and were spotting these whales every day
off Grotto beach. We do however regularly have large
schools of dolphins come into our bay and can be watched
from the beautiful cliff paths. Our Southern Right
whales seem to enjoy human interaction and spend a lot
of their day watching us watching them. The southern
right whales leave at the beginning of December en masse
but we still spot some right through until March.
